Upload files
The importer reads files, or a folder, into a library.
Requires: a curator or an admin, not suspended. Import opens for every
member; the database refuses anyone else's batch.
This page is the panes docked, the editor closed, no prompter running.
- Press
Importin pane 1's footer; it opens under the search field. - Press
Choose files, orChoose folderfor a directory; there is no drop target. - Every file is listed at once by path; five upload and read at a time.
What happens to each file
Unreadable files start as not read; the rest start queued, switch to
failed on an upload or read error, and end as:
imported— a new snippet in the default library.updated— this library holds a live snippet under the same import key (the picker and the path). It is written over in place: the file's title replaces the snippet's and the summary and tags are cleared (#865). A revision is written only where the text, title, summary or tags differ. An archived snippet at that key is not found, so the insert that follows readsfailed(#893).already here— a snippet in this library already holds identical content, named in the row. Both lookups run as you: a colleague'sonly yousnippet is invisible and imports as new.not read— an extension it does not import, no conversion built, over the format's size limit, or empty. The size is re-checked and the bytes read as text on what arrives; an upload that never landed ends here.failed— an error thrown mid-import, the archived collision included. The row carries its reason.
The closing line always counts N imported, adding N updated, N already in your library and N couldn't be read (failed + not read) above zero.
File formats has the extensions and size limits.
A folder on this computer
In Chrome or Edge, Local Folder (this computer) at
/w/<workspace>/settings/sources reads one folder the same way, a file at a
time: Choose folder…, then Re-scan. It reports one line — Read 12 files from <folder>. — with no per-file outcome, and the same line when the batch
was refused
(#903).
