Google Drive

Connecting Drive lets you sync a folder of Google Docs into a library.

Google Drive import is on Team, Business and Enterprise. A workspace created before it became part of a plan keeps it.

Requires: a curator or an admin. For anyone else, adding a folder and the snippets a sync writes are refused by the database.

  1. Open /w/<workspace>/settings/sources.
  2. Under Google Drive & Google Docs, press Connect Google Drive and finish Google's consent; the Not connected badge turns Connected.
  3. Press Select Folder in Drive and pick one folder.
  4. Press Sync Snippets on the folder's row.

What a sync does

A sync writes the folder's documents into a collection named [Google Drive] <folder>, in the library carrying the Default badge. It reports Synced 12 snippet(s) into collection "<name>"., and a line beginning Notice: lists what went wrong, by file.

A document synced before is written to the same snippet, matched on the file's id in that library. Where that snippet is a colleague's private one, you cannot see it: the sync attempts a new insert and the database refuses it — the hidden row already holds that file's id, and, unless the document has been renamed, its slug as well — and the Notice: line reports Failed to save component "<title>" (#898).

Who can see a synced folder

Each folder row carries a visibility pill, Workspace or Only you. On a folder another member configured it is off, reading Only the member who configured this sync can change visibility.

On a plan without Drive import

The Google Drive & Google Docs section shows the note Google Drive import is on Team. and the rest of it: file upload and local folders bring the same documents in, and everything already in the workspace stays and exports. It ends with Talk to us and (CCE-2115).

Select Folder in Drive, Sync Snippets, Sync Templates, Sync All Folders and Import Google Docs are off. Folders already synced stay, and so does what they wrote. Remove folder, Disconnect and Reconnect Google Drive still work.

Connect Google Drive appears only where Drive import or Google Docs export is on the plan. On Free, in a workspace without an older workspace's grant, there is no Connect Google Drive.

Removing and disconnecting

Remove folder and Disconnect each ask first, and both confirmations say the snippets already synced stay in the library.

Exporting covers Google Docs in the sheet.
